News > Acorns to Oak trees Community garden

Two years ago funding was applied to revamp and upgrade our outdoor area. We have waited a long time but eventually it all paid off. Funding was granted and the work began in March 2019. The children watched the progress on a daily basis and got more excited as the time went on. The community garden ‘Acorns to Oak trees’ was officially opened on Friday 21st June 2019. The project was funded by the Urban Villages Initiative through an investment of £186k.

To celebrate the opening of our new outdoor classroom and play area, Holy Cross Nursery School hosted a community fun day with pupils and parents from their Buddy Up School, Edenderry Nursery School.

The sun shone for everyone to enjoy the fun, garden and treats. The Play area was officially opened with the cutting of the ribbon by Very Rev. Fr. Eugene Mc Carthy CP PP.

Representatives of Urban Villages, Education Authority and Kelly Brothers were there. Our local MLA Nichola Mallon stated it was ‘lovely to be with the pupils, parents and teachers from Holy Cross and Edenderry Nursery schools at the community fun day to celebrate the opening of Holy Cross Nursery’s new outdoor classroom and play area funded by Urban Villages. Credit to all who worked hard to turn this vision into a reality.’
