About Us

Holy Cross Nursery School opened in March 1994. It is a Catholic maintained school situated in Holy Cross Parish, Ardoyne, North Belfast. It is a modern purpose built nursery school with an outdoor environment which has recently underwent extensive refurbishment to create a new community garden. Since opening it has had a parent room extension to facilitate our extensive parent programme.

The school has 52 full time places and there is a high demand for these places each year. The nursery day runs from 8:50am – 1:30pm Monday to Thursday and 8:50am to 12:40pm on a Friday. We also operate a free ‘Early Morning Drop Off’ (8:30am – 8:50am) to accommodate working parents or those with additional school runs. School staff consist of a principal, teacher, two full-time and two part-time nursery assistants, a home school support worker and an SESP parent facilitator with Edenderry Nursery School.

Healthy Diet

In Holy Cross Nursery School we recognise the importance of a healthy, balanced diet. The children have a daily morning snack which is varied each day with a selection of fruit/bread/crackers. School catering provides a varied healthy balanced meal each day. We recognise our role in influencing the eating habits of young children and encourage children to taste all foods.

Parents

Parents are welcomed and encouraged to participate in all aspects of nursery life – especially our ‘Buddy Up’ programme with the children and parents of Edenderry Nursery School. Resources such as ‘Busy Bee’ homework bags and ‘Big Bedtime Read’ Library packs encourage and support shared learning at home.

The nursery school is supported by a dedicated Board of Governors who are highly supportive of the wellbeing of staff, children and parents and the development of the school.
